General

This manual contains instructions for unpacking, handling, mounting and wiring of TELEM-GWx products.

Packing

The packing can be stored and reused when needed. The packing itself is not a suitable transport package, but the device must be further packed as required by the means of transportation to be used. The packing material is recyclable and can be disposed of or recycled according to separate recycling instructions.

Storage

To prevent the possible ingress of dirt, the packing should not be opened until the device is to be used. Long time storage shall be made in dry place.

Checking of the consignment

  1. Check the device visually for possible external damage or loose parts inside the device. If the device is found to be damaged, see section “Complaints”
  2. Check that the device complies with the order:
  • ordercode on the side of the device
  • other possible order-related structural matters.

If found incomplete, see section “Complaints”

Complaints
Complaints for manufacturing faults are directed in writing to the manufacturer or the authorized dealer, from which the product was acquired. See contact information on section "Reference information".
Complaints about transport damage must be sent to the accountable transport or insurance company.

Safety

Electrical safety

National electrical safety regulations must be observed, when work is carried out under live conditions. The TELEM-GWx manufacturer cannot be held responsible for accidents caused by incorrect working or protection practices.

Handling

The correct handling of the TELEM-GWx under all mounting and operating conditions forms the foundation for a correct and safe use of the devices. All separately marked notes and warnings MUST be observed.

Electrostatic discharge

The TELEM-GWx devices include components, which are liable to be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). The TELEM-GWx must not be opened without permission from the manufacturer. If done, necessary protective measures against ESD should be taken.

Installation

TELEM devices are prepared for installation on 35mm DIN mounting rail.

  • Degree of protection IP 31
  • Ambient temperature in operation –30°C…+55°C

Device dimensions (W x H x D):

TELEM-GWM
  • 50 (64) x 135 x 173 (185 with protruding parts) mm
  • Weight 1100 g
TELEM-GW6
  • 108 x 114 x 166 (190 with protruding parts ) mm
  • Weight 900 g

Power supply

  • Supply voltage range 12 to 72 V DC
  • Power consumption < 8 VA, < 25 VA with card L

Wiring

General

The wiring work must be performed according to national standards and possible requirements from the customer. Power supply wires are connected to the screw terminals on the front panel of the device. The terminals are detachable.

Connections

  1. Check that the rated values of the TELEM-GWx device comply with those of the intended application.
  • The auxiliary voltage values can be found from the body of the device.
  • TELEM-GWM digital inputs: wetted internally from power supply, limited to 48VDC
  • TELEM-GWM digital outputs: dry contacts max. 110VDC 0.3A, 125VAC 0.5A
  • TELEM-GW6 IFR: dry contact max. 110VDC 0.3A, 125VAC 0.5A
  1. Earth the device by connecting an earthing wire (minimum cross section 1.5 mm2) to the devices earth terminal.
  2. Wire the sevice to the rest of the process according to the wiring diagrams of the application.
  3. Connect the cable shields of shielded signal cables to the earth terminal of the device.

Checking the wiring

Check the secondary wiring by visual inspection and, when needed, by measuring, to eliminate possible incorrect wirings, which may cause malfunction of the device or associated devices.

Electrical connections

Auxiliary voltage max. wire dimension
*Phoenix MVSTBW or equivalent 2.5 mm2 (13-14 AWG)

Digital input, digital outputs and IRF max. wire dimension
*Phoenix MC1,5/3,5 or equivalent 1.5 mm2 (15-16 AWG)

Accordance with standards

Electrical characteristics of isolated input

  • Dielectric withstand IEC 60255-5
  • Withstand to static discharge IEC 61000-4-2, 15kV
  • Withstand to surges, bursts IEC 61000-4-4, 61000-4-5, 2,5kV AC, 4kV DC

Radio frequency compatibility

  • RF emission IEC 55022 Class A
  • Immunity to RF fields IEC 61000-4-3, 61000-4-6
